Signal to Noise Ratio is a value that measures the strength of a wireless signal compared to the background signals being broadcast from other devices. The measurement used is dB. A good SNR is between 20 and 30 dB

Wi-Fi Networks usually communicate via the 2.5GHz or 5GHz Frequency and more recently the 6GHz frequency. If you are running a dual-band environment there may be other factors that could impact signal strength and connection speeds, such as the protocols in use and any load balancing configuration.

Symptoms on your network that can be related to a low Signal to Noise ratio (SNR) are :

  • Slow data transfer when downloading content to your devices.
  • Missing/Corrupted tracks on the headsets
  • Headsets switching from connected to disconnected within the portal

Having a low SNR setting on your access points can cause data to transfer slowly due to the signal being distorted by other devices broadcasting on the same frequency or the signal may be too weak to receive all the data transmitted. Increasing the SNR for the access points will allow the devices to disconnect from an access point when the signal becomes too weak or distorted, allowing for better data transfers

Factors that can affect the SNR are within a classroom environment are :

  • Bluetooth Devices.
  • Distance from the access point that devices are connected to.
  • The number of devices wanting to connect to the same access point.

There are some recent protocols that are primarily used to manage the fast switching of devices between access points such as Fast BSS Transition 802.11r, RRM (Radio resource management) 802.11k and BTM (BSS Transition Management) 802.11v. These protocols are currently unsupported by ClassVR headsets. You can find more information on supported protocols here : WiFi Protocol Support

You can use a WIFI Analyzer App or Software that will test the dB of your Wi-Fi Connection.
