ClassVR Headset Client & Firmware Updates

Overview

ClassVR headsets automatically download and install both client (interface) updates and firmware (system software) updates when certain conditions are met.

Keeping devices updated ensures:

  • Optimal performance
  • Security improvements
  • Access to the latest features and fixes

Update Requirements

For updates to occur automatically, the following must be true:

  • Battery charge: Headsets must be switched on and have at least 20% charge to complete updates.
  • Internet access: Headsets must have a working Wi-Fi connection and be able to reach:
    • *.avncloud.com
    • http://avnfs.com
  • Storage space: Minimum 2GB free storage is required to download and install firmware.Note: Devices with up-to-date firmware will automatically reserve 2GB to allow for future updates.
  • Firewall settings: Allow downloads for:
    • *.apk files (ClassVR client)
    • *.zip files (firmware)

Client Updates

  • Managed and released by Avantis.
  • Applied automatically when headsets are on charge and connected to Wi-Fi.
  • File size is typically around 30MB.
  • Delivered as an .apk (Android Package Kit) file.
  • Updates the ClassVR interface and functionality.

Firmware Updates

  • Managed and released by Avantis.
  • Applied automatically when headsets are on charge and connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Critical for security, performance, and compatibility.
  • Delivered as a .zip file (~2GB or more).
  • Installation is automatic and will trigger a device restart once complete.

Checking Update Status in the ClassVR Portal

If a headset’s client or firmware is out of date, the ClassVR Portal will display an alert.

  1. Log in to the ClassVR Portal.
  2. Click the Settings icon (top right).
  3. Navigate to the Administration Portal → Devices:
    Manage Devices – portal.classvr.com
  4. Outdated versions are highlighted in red.
