Side-loading apps onto a ClassVR headset

It is possible to add your own apps and resources to the ClassVR headsets. You will need to ensure that you have:

  • The APK file of the app that you would like to install. (You can usually download APKs from a repository website if you do not have it already)
  • The package name. (You should be able to find this in the URL of the APK that you are downloading – for example com.google.android.youtube)

Once you have this, log into the ClassVR Portal and click on the Settings cog in the top-right corner.

Under your organisation, click on Administration Portal.

Once in the Administration Portal, click on Resources in the left panel.

Click Add New Resource on the right.

Enter the name of the app, and select Application from the drop-down menu, then click Add Resource.

On the following screen, add in the package name.

Click Android Binary Files > Upload New Binary.

Click Choose file and navigate to the location where the APK is stored. Click Open and then Upload.

Once the file has uploaded, click Android Package Versions > Add New Package.

Click 'unset' under APK File, and then click the drop-down arrow. Select your app from the list.

You can add the app to a playlist if required by clicking Add to Playlist in the Actions panel at the top-right.

Further Troubleshooting

  • The app will not open.
    • Ensure that the file used is a genuine APK file.
    • Check to see if there is a newer/more compatible version.
    • Try downloading/re-uploading the app again.
    • Make sure the app came from a reputable source.
  • The app is not working as expected.
    • Check to make sure that the app is compatible with your ClassVR headsets.
    • Try uploading the app to a different device.
  • The app is blurry or does not fit the screen correctly.
    • Ensure that the app can support the screensize/resolution of your ClassVR headsets.
