What is a Group Filter?

Group Filters allow you to organise headsets into specific groups so you can send different content to each group — even when all devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Example uses:

  • Running two different lessons at the same time in the same school.
  • Using separate playlists in the same classroom.
  • Sending content to specific headsets for testing or demonstration (e.g., lesson plan checks, showcasing VR experiences).

Creating a Group Filter

  1. Go to the Deliver Tab
    • In the ClassVR Portal, click the Deliver tab at the top.
  2. Open the Device Filter Menu
    • In the Devices pane (bottom right), click the Create New Device Filter icon.
  3. Create a New Group
    • In the Add New Filter dialog box, select Group from the dropdown.
    • Click Create New Group.
  4. Name Your Group
    • In the Create New Group dialog box, type a name for your group.
    • Click Create Group.
  5. Select and Apply the Group
    • Click the Create New Device Filter icon again.
    • In Group to Show, choose your group name and click Add Filter.
  6. Assign Headsets to the Group
    • Your group will now appear at the top of the Devices pane.
    • Click the QR code icon next to the group name.
    • Use the Scanner App on a headset to scan the QR code.
    • Repeat for each headset you want to add to the group.

Separating a Single Device

  • Right-click on the headset’s name in the Devices pane.
  • Select Filter to separate it from others.

Important Notes

  • Persistence: Groups only exist if headsets are assigned to them. If no devices are in a group, it will disappear when the page is refreshed.
  • Disconnected devices: If a headset is in a group but disconnected, the group remains visible until all devices are removed.
  • Browser-specific: Groups are stored per browser session — they are not linked to your organisation or user account. Each user must create their own groups.

If you’d like, I can also create a visual quick guide version of this article with screenshots from the Portal showing where the Group Filter, QR code, and Device pane are — this tends to help teachers who are less familiar with the interface.

Do you want me to prepare that illustrated version?
